Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2015
The pride of Moncton, New Brunswick and the top senior team in all of Canada, the “Hawks” were Allan Cup winners in both 1932-33 and ’33-34, with this neat array of items paying tribute to the heroes. A ’32-33 team picture is joined by two scribblers which also depict the champs, two other similar exercise/practice books, a nifty notepad or “pencil tablet”, “The Hawk Song” sheet music, four individual pictures including one of Bert Connolly and a swell metal ashtray dated “1933-34”. Condition and further details are available on our website.
One can only imagine the heroes’ welcome the Hawks received upon returning home in the spring of 1933, after having travelled all the way to Vancouver, defeating the Saskatoon Quakers for the Allan Cup. The following year in Toronto, Moncton defended its title by beating the Fort William Braves in the final. All of the items offered in this fascinating lot show handling and wear, with a stain affecting the 8” by 10” team picture, writing by a young lad in and on the four school scribblers and creasing to the four-page sheet music. Joining Connolly in pictures on paper stock and measuring either 8” by 11” or 8” by 12” are Dud James, Knuckes Irvine and Bill Miller. Best condition-wise are the un-used 4” by 6” notepad hailing the ’33-34 champions and the 4” in diameter ashtray. A dozen wonderful items from when Moncton was tops in Canada!
