Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Originally sold through the Hockey Diversified NHL Goal Puck Program that offered game-used examples from 1972-73 and 1973-74, a label was affixed to each listing the scorer, team and date, along with a code that divulged which team-goal said puck accounted for. We have a trio of pucks that were all used to score goals for the Philadelphia Flyers during the 1972-73 NHL season, with examples used by Gary Dornhoefer, Don Saleski and Ross Lonsberry. The Dornhoefer and Lonsberry pucks both originate from a Feb 9 1973 road contest against Vancouver, where the Flyers trashed the Canucks 10-5, while the Saleski puck hails from a road loss to the Canadiens on Nov 16 1972, with the Habs slipping past the Bullies, 6-5. The Flyers would finish second in the West Division in 1972-73, before losing to the Habs in the semifinals in five games. Bobby Clarke would be awarded the Hart Memorial as the NHL's MVP.
The Dornhoefer and Saleski pucks both have fairly clean rubberized team logos, with a bit of red residue encompassing the Canucks logo on the Lonsberry puck. All three pucks show wear and marks to the Goal Puck Program labels, with this most noticeable on the Saleski puck.
