The Oilers capped off their sophomore 1980-81 NHL season with a stunning playoff sweep of the mighty Montreal Canadiens in three games. Celebrating that victory and originating from the archives of the Edmonton Oilers, we have the official 1980-81 Edmonton Oilers team photo plaque that hung in the club's locker room hallway. Featuring an 18” x 24” beveled-edge wooden plaque, a 7 ½” x 9 ½” team photo has been mounted beneath plexiglass, with engraved metal plates added beneath and on either side listing the club’s stats, achievements and playoff performance for 1980-81. Mounting holes are visible along each corner, with a pair of labels from “Alberta Trophy and Gift Shop” over the reverse. Originating from the archives of the Edmonton Oilers, a signed LOA from past Oilers’ GM and current vice-chairman of Oilers Entertainment Group Kevin Lowe will accompany.
The plaque exhibits minor wear, with scratches present over the affixed metal plates, along with some spotting to the wooden plaque itself, mostly along the bottom left. There is also a small area of white paint just above the photo, along with a streak of faded white over the centralized plate.
A tribute to team accomplishments, each year the Edmonton Oilers produced a "highlight plaque" listing the team's markers and milestones upon the completion of the season. This collection of plaques date back to the WHA days and each features a team photo and a summary of the team's statistics, results and accomplishments for that respective season. These amazing plaques hung along the hallway leading into the Oilers locker room for all who entered to see and appreciate. Players, coaches, members of the media and fans lucky enough to have a locker room pass would marvel at the names and faces of some of the club's greatest players.
