Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

An original member of the Philadelphia Flyers and a selfless leader on the blue line, veteran defenceman Ed Van Impe was a key member of the Broad Street Bullies who won back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in the mid-1970s. Van Impe's 1973-74 Flyers game-worn white home jersey inspired bouts of the "Philly flu" among opponents who feared to venture into the torture chamber that was the old Spectrum. From the Flyers' first Stanley Cup season, this classic Philly cloth has size 50 and laundry instruction flag tags in the back of the neck. Van Impe's sweat and toil from that championship season are written all over this gamer which has a solid black mark to the left of the classic Flyers nameplate with Van Impe's name spelled out in black twill letters. Soiling on both sides of the upper front are probably sweat stains, particularly on the right side. More black marks on the front of the right sleeve, on the right tail and under the left arm, with various light browns stains throughout, some of which may be dried blood, and a small nick with red paint transfer on the rear tail. Comes with Ed Van Impe's signed LOA. Some of the stitching on the orange and black double twill number 2 sewn on the back has let go. More game wear includes pilling on the front tail and pilling inside the jersey, particularly on the elbow gussets and under the arms, which have bluish bleeding, likely from Van Impe’s protective equipment, which is more prominent inside the jersey but does show through on the front. There is also bluish black dye bleeding inside the back of the jersey from the twill number and surname letters.
