Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
A three-time Allan Cup champion with the Port Arthur Bearcats during the mid-to-late-1920s, Gordon “Phat” Wilson was one of the greatest amateur players of his day, with numerous clubs attempting to lure the defenceman into professionalism. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a photo signed by the 1963 HOF inductee. At 8” x 10” and picturing the Port Arthur native in a bust-length portrait image, Phat has signed over the lighter area beneath his chin in blue ballpoint, adding “Best Wishes”, with the signature presenting nicely. Passing in 1970 at age 74, we should note that THIS IS THE FIRST PHAT WILSON SIGNED PHOTO WE HAVE EVER SEEN/OFFERED.
As mentioned, the signature displays nicely, with numerous creases and surface lines to the glossy print itself. There is also typed biographical text over the reverse.
