Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Originally obtained by a young 11-year old hockey fan in 1934 and later gifted to Herb Carnegie/the Carnegie family, we have a small autograph booklet featuring signatures of Toronto Maple Leafs legends and other greats, including deceased HOFers George Hainsworth, Joe Primeau, Busher Jackson, Lionel Conacher, King Clancy, Hap Day, Red Horner and others. At just under 4” x 5” and constructed of tree bark including the pages, the fountain pen autographs were obtained at the Silver Slipper dance hall on Wasaga Bay, when it was managed by Charlie Conacher. Spread over 2 pages, the first contains Hainsworth and fellow HOFers Frank Selke and Foster Hewitt, along with Bill Thoms and two others. The second contains Clancy, Jackson, Horner, Primeau, and Day, along with two others. An LOA from the Carnegie family will accompany.
The back of the first page (Hainsworth, Selke, etc) has a few additional signatures, including HOF referee Mike Rodden and netminder Jake Forbes, as well as two others. The signatures all display nicely and remain somewhat bold, with the Hainsworth and Selke lighter, with small areas missing from the beginning of the Clancy and Horner signatures, most likely due to the pen. The second page (Clancy, Jackson, etc) has become detached, with the pages and booklet overall a bit brittle.
