Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018

Named the world's best all-around player by Soviet national team coach Viktor Tikhonov, Bob Gainey brought many elements to the Montreal Canadiens during his 16-year NHL career. The burly left winger was a tenacious competitor, relentless checker, respected team leader and capable contributor on the offense. His presence on the Habs' roster helped the team win the Stanley Cup five times in the decade between 1976 and 1986 and led them to the Stanley Cup finals in 1989. This is Gainey's road red CCM uniform from 1987-88 or 1988-89. The washed-out neck tagging is by Maska and the CCM logo shows up on the outer tail with Gainey's captain's "C" sewn on the chest. Wear is very obvious, with marks, board burns and no less than 13 bullet-style repairs on the left sleeve alone! Another 13 repairs appear on the body of the jersey and, unlucky as it may seem, 13 more can be found on the right sleeve. Wondrous!
Included is a large black & white signed photo of Bob Gainey (with COA) from circa 1987-88 which shows correct number placement and similar particularities of the "3" on the left sleeve, but not high resolution enough to call a definitive photo-match.
