Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017

The rookie card of Mario Lemieux has always highlighted O-Pee-Chee's 1985-86 hockey card effort, with the rookie and star cards in this near set mirroring the rest condition-wise; all over the place. Centering, along with a vertical/diagonal crease affect the Mario RC, the crease rising up two inches from the middle of the bottom edge and rendering card #9 VG. Also creased and VG are Pat Lafontaine and Pelle Lindbergh cards, with however the Al MacInnis RC a beauty and NM-MT, similar to Mark Messier. Some even MINT cards are to be discovered, but we also spot intermittent corner wear and other odd creases here and there - this was obviously a pieced-together set. Wayne Gretzky's regular card, (#20) exhibits a diamond cut but is otherwise NM, while second-year cards of Neely, Gilmour and Chelios are EX-MT. Enough corner wear/touches render the second-year Yzerman and #262-Lemieux Rookie Scoring Leader EX, the same as the two (unmarked) checklists. In summary, not right up there overall condition-wise but still an important set from the 1980s, with one unopened '85-86 pack a cool/welcome bonus. The missing card to complete the set is #86-Ed Olczyk RC.
