Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Hailing from the 52nd season of National Hockey League play and the second since the league had doubled in size from six (6) teams to twelve (12), the Montreal Canadiens and St. Louis Blues met in the Stanley Cup Finals for the second year in a row, with the series ending in a 4-0 Montreal sweep for their second consecutive Stanley Cup, an identical result to the previous season. Finishing the regular season in 4th and 5th place respectively in the East Division, offered here is this pair of multi-signed placemats featuring the signatures of players from the 1968-69 Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings. Made of paper and coming from the Toronto restaurant "The Toronto Radio Artists Club" that is known to have been a once popular spot for famous people and hockey players to get together and unwind after games, the front of each placemat features radio, music notes and drinks graphics in red while the reverses are blank. Each measuring roughly 14' x 9 1/2", both are found in good condition with fold lines observed while one of the two has a small tear at the right side. For the autographs, all have been signed in blue ballpoint pen and made out "To Doug" while remaining in excellent condition and displaying well. The Toronto placemat includes the signatures of Henderson, Quinn, Selby, Smith, Gamble, Kennedy, Oliver, Pronovost, Mickey, Dorey, Walton, Keon and Ullman while the Detroit placement features the signatures of Sawchuk, Harris, Delvecchio, LeClerc and Douglas. A neat piece of Toronto history carrying the autographs of some of the best to ever play in the NHL, don't miss out on these!
