This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Receiving two years of seasoning before making the jump to the NHL, Terry Sawchuk spent both 1948-49 and 1949-50 with the Indianapolis Capitals of the AHL, earning top rookie accolades in 1949. We have a great group of memorabilia from Terry’s time in Indiana, with a framed team photo, mug and plate. The team photo features the 1949-50 squad will all members pictured including Sawchuk, and it’s been double-matted and framed to full dimensions of roughly 21” x 26 ½”. The plate is 10” in diameter with a gilded edge, and it also features a 1949-50 team photo (different image from the framed photo), with Sawchuk again pictured. The mug feature’s “Indianapolis Caps 1948-49”, with a generic player pictured along with facsimile signatures from all team members including Sawchuk.
The framed photo, most likely part of a calendar originally, exhibits a few minor wrinkles, while the plate has a few small spots of residue, with moderate crazing throughout. The maker “Steubenville” is listed along the underside, with a sticker present from a prior auction. The 6” mug has a pair of cracks along the top of the handle, with additional chipping along the base and underside, with some staining to the interior.
