Rugged defenseman Phil Russell’s photo-matched 1973-74 Black Hawks game-worn playoffs jersey displays solid game wear that includes 13 team repairs. Worn by Russell in the 1973-74 playoffs and then during the 1974-75 regular season, it is photo-matched to an included digital image to the upper left portion of the "5" on the left sleeve and to a number of marks above the sewn-on double twill number as well. Wilson size 50 tag, which is frayed along the top edge, sits in the collar with a well-preserved Gunzo’s tag below it. The Hawks’ “74 PO” tag is sewn on the right front inner hem. More game wear includes board burns and red paint transfer on the sleeves and tails, and black marks on the front, back and both sleeves.
There are five team repairs on the right sleeve, three on the left shoulder and upper left sleeve, four on the front tail, and one on the left lower back. The left sleeve has some reddish-brown stains. Fantastic chain-stitching on the team crest sewn on the front, which is a bit frayed along the far right edge where the stitching to the jersey has let go. One garter-style fight strap remains in the back, and another one has been cut. There is also evidence of a short former nameplate, with nameplates mandated for television use and later removed. We see no evidence of numbers or team crest alterations, but it is possible the jersey was recycled down to a farm team as was typical for Black Hawks jerseys from this period.
