Serving the sport of hockey throughout his life, Bob Pulford first enjoyed a HOF career as a player, starring for the Toronto Maple Leafs for over a dozen seasons which included winning four Stanley Cup championships. The Ontario native would conclude his career in Los Angeles before coaching the club, with over 30 years then spent with the Chicago Black Hawks organization. Beautifully executed, this attractive original framed painting of the first president of the National Hockey League Players' Association was expertly produced by noted artist Dewitt "Tex" Coulter. At 15 ½” x 19 ½”, Pulford is wonderfully depicted in game-action vs Detroit, with the painting originating from the circa mid-to-late-1960s based on the Leafs team crest. “Tex” appears over the bottom right, with the unique work double-matted and framed to full dimensions of approx 22 ½” x 26 ½”.
With no issues visible for the painting, we should note some wear to both the frame and glass. A former football star renowned for his artistic prowess, Coulter’s paintings were used for the cover images of "Blueline" magazine in the 1950s/60s, where he served as artistic director.
