Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Suiting up for a professional hockey game for the first time during the 1946-47 season with the United States Hockey League's Omaha Knights, Max McNab would post 39 points in 37 games played during the season, as well as 12 points in 11 playoff contests as the Knights won the regular season title and made a trip to the league finals against the Kansas City Pla-Mors, dropping the series in five (5) games. Offered here, we present this collection of USHL Omaha Knights related items from McNab's personal collection including a 1946-47 team-signed framed photo, team-signed program and additional items. Starting with the team-signed framed photo, housed in a wooden frame that measures out to full dimensions of 21 1/2" x 18" and displayed under a cream coloured matte, the elegant black and white team photo remains in overall excellent condition while showing a scratch/crease in the crest of the player at the far left side of the top row and some light wear at the top right corner. Having been signed by twenty (20) at the bottom of the piece in fountain pen ink, those that having autographed the image include; Frank Porteous, Bernie Strongman, Lee Fogolin, Barry Sullivan, Winfield Mousseau, Frank Melong, Max McNab, Metz Skaleske, Conrad Poitras, Don Morrison, Sam Lavitt, George Homenuke, Jimmy Skinner, Modere "Mud" Bruneteau, Carl "Winky" Smith, Nelson "Blinky" Boyce, Harvey Jessiman, Jake Forbes and Ed Reigle with the autographs mostly displaying well despite varying degrees of fading due to the nature of the ink used and the surface it is penned on. For the team-signed program, likely from Omaha's 6-6 tie against Dallas on January 28th, 1947 based on notations penned to the interior by NcNab himself, the program remains largely in good condition other than the front cover, which is mostly removed and shows staining, tears and numerous creases. Signed by approximately sixteen (16) over the front over, mostly names previously listed above, all the signatures have been penned in black fountain pen ink and display without issue despite some that show some fading from age. Rounded out with an additional program from the season, this time unsigned and seeming to be from the same game based on the schedule on the interior, the condition is much the same with the cover showing the same flaws listed previously. Also including a smaller team photo from the season that measures roughly 9 1/4" x 7 1/2" and is seen in good condition, glue residue is found on the reverse as well as a stamp from "Colortography" studio while the front shows the names of team members along the bottom and the team name and year at the top. An LOA from the McNab Family will accompany the grouping.
