Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

The darling of Broadway and a definite fan favourite throughout his tenure in The Big Apple, netminder Ed Giacomin was selected to play in six NHL All-Star Games, with five consecutive appearances from 1967-71. Straight off his Vezina-winning season of 1971 (shared with Gilles Villemure), we have a stick used by the 1987 HHOF inductee in 1971-72. A Sher-Wood Pattern Pro model with “Giacomin” and “1” stamped-on, the original black tape over the paddle and blade is intact, along with the white-over-black tape on the knob. A handwritten production date of “9-3-71” is also visible along the underside edge of the paddle, with the 5 thin lower striping accents present. Nice use is exhibited on the solid lumber, with wear along the blade and underside.
Used while at the height of his powers, Ed led the league in games played for four straight years from 1967 to 1970, also leading the league in shutouts in 1967, 1968 and 1971. A pair of colour 8” x 10” photos will be included, with each showing Giacomin using this exact style of stick.
