The one-time NHL regular season points record-holder with 96 in 1958-59, Dickie Moore was an integral component of the Canadiens’ juggernaut dynasty that steamrolled over all competition throughout the mid-to-late-1950s. Five Stanley Cups would be won by the back-to-back Art Ross Trophy winner throughout the decade - along with a sixth in 1960. Six All-Star Game appearances would also lend credence to Moore’s superstar status, with his Hockey Hall of Fame induction occurring in 1974 after gracing the NHL throughout parts of 14 seasons that would include short stints in both St Louis and Toronto. Sadly, Moore passed shortly before Christmas in 2015.
Hailing from his last of 12 seasons representing the historic Bleu Blanc Rouge, we are excited to be able to offer a vintage photo-matched Montreal Canadiens wool sweater that was worn by the Montreal native during the 1962-63 regular season. Currently void of any collar or seam labeling, the vintage sweater feature’s the iconic Habs team crest administered in layered red, white and blue tackle twill, with “12” on the sleeves and verso in matching material. The familiar striping bands have also been utilized over the lower band, mid-section and sleeves, with four eyelet configuration on tie-neck construction.
Worthy of inclusion within any world class wool collection, it is interesting to note that the gauntlet would symbolically be passed numerically, with Yvan Cournoyer first donning the number 12 in 1963-64 after Moore’s final season with les Canadiens.
A few marks are present over the team crest and right sleeve, with team repairs situated on the lower front and reverse and over the right elbow. There is also some pilling, along with minor staining to the reverse numbers. Nine included numeric images from the 1962-63 season have been matched to the sweater, including to the exact positioning of the number 2 on each sleeve (one is placed higher), to the slightly curved lower portion of the "2" on the left sleeve and it’s placement, to the placement of the #12 on the reverse with the "1" slightly shorter than the "2", and the upper portion of the "1" noticeably lower, and to the loose collar string as well as the difference in shape to both side of the very front of the collar.
