Hailing from a large Canadian family of 13 brothers and sisters, Dick Duff first starred for the Toronto St. Michael's Majors before making his NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1955. The Kirkland Lake native would be a member of six Stanley Cup championships throughout his career including a pair with the blue and white. This original vintage oil painting on board has been signed by the star. At approx 16 ½” x 25”, Duff is all smiles and wonderfully portrayed in his Leafs wool sweater, with faded text over the upper right that states “To Dickie Duff from your friend Bill”, along with “Lazar” (presumably the artist) and “18/2/57”, also faded over the bottom left corner. Duff has added a flawless blue marker signature to the reverse, with the painting set in a period eggshell blue wooden frame to full dimensions of approx 21 ½” x 29 ½”.
The painting exhibits surface wear throughout, with a few very small areas of loss along the left side including the border. The frame also shows wear including a few chips.
