Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Highly desirable with intriguing provenance, we have a stick used by Wayne Gretzky at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey, with this particular example featuring a dedicated signature to Paul Coffey’s dad, with the stick originating from Coffey’s personal collection. An Easton Silver Tip model with Gretzky factory graphics including facsimile signature, “Gretzky” has been stamped onto the inserted wood blade, with Wayne’s familiar “Jack the Gripper” over the handle, with the tape removed from the blade to facilitate the signature. Administered in black marker, the dedication is quite lengthy, with “World Cup 96” added beneath the signature. Game-use includes marks to both sides of the shaft, with a small crack at the top of the inserted blade. A signed LOA from Paul Coffey will accompany.
The stick also exhibits a small spot of tape residue over the front side of the heel section. Wayne would score 7 points including 3 goals during his 8 games at the tournament.
