Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

A second place finish at the conclusion of the 1940-41 NHL season, the Toronto Maple Leafs would face the season-champion Boston Bruins in the semifinals, with the boys from Beantown just slipping past the Blue and White in seven games. We have a gorgeous multi-signed display of the 1940-41 club, with this prominent example most likely seeing display within a team management or MLG office setting. At 15” x 17 ½” (exposed), cameos of the full team and management are featured, along with attractive vignettes from legendary cartoonist Lou Skuce. The 25 signatures are placed in order, directly beneath each column of photos, including HOFers Red Horner, Turk Broda, Sweeney Schriner, Syl Apps, Gord Drillon and coach Hap Day, along with Conn Smythe and Frank Selke. Framed to full dimensions of approx. 24” x 26”, this is the first example of this signed display we’ve ever encountered.
The signatures all appear to be fountain pen, with a few lighter examples, with the majority remaining fairly dark and displaying well. Along with the aforementioned HOFers, other signers include Metz, Taylor, Stanowski, Langelle, McDonald, Goldup, Hamilton, Heron, Metz, Marker, Davidson, Kampman, Chisholm, Mann, Church, Daly and Eddie Powers. There is some minor staining and spotting along the bottom section, mostly over the left, along with a few additional stains present.
