Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018

Incredibly rare opportunity is this Maple Leaf Gardens inaugural game program. It is the first one we have ever seen or handled, and it’s team-signed by the 1931-32 Maple Leafs, including seven deceased members of the Hockey Hall of Fame! Happy Day, Red Horner, King Clancy and the Kid Line of Conacher, Primeau and Jackson are among the 14 autographs in a variety of inks on the front cover of this highly-desirable opening night program from the Leafs’ first game at MLG against the Chicago Black Hawks on November 12, 1931. This amazing program was professionally restored, with the covers and most pages reinforced with a micro-fiber process, including the centerfold insert with the Black Hawks and Maple Leafs lineups. Included are three original photos of MLG during its construction, as well as a 1979 newspaper clipping that mentions the program and a full-size reproduction of this first MLG game program.
Deceased HOFer Ace Bailey is among the other members of the 1931-32 Stanley Cup champion Maple Leafs who have signed the program, including Frank Finnigan, Lorne Chabot, Harold Cotton, Alex Levinsky, Andy Blair, Benny Grant and Bob Gracie.
Three fascinating original 8” x 9 3/4" photos on linen backing from July, September and October 1931 depict scenes of Maple Leaf Gardens under construction. Each photo has “Thomson Bros. Limited, Toronto, Maple Leaf Gardens, Ross & MacDonald, Architects” and is numbered and dated in the bottom right corner.
