Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Seemingly insignificant black rubber disk dates back to 1972, as noted in the white oval stamping on one side. The year, one of the only readable markings on the puck as all others are in Cyrillic, is quite key. This puck is one of the few surviving game pucks from the historic 1972 Canada-Russia Summit Series that pitted the best of the Soviet Union against the heavily-favored Team Canada squad made up of players from the NHL. This is one of the few examples we’ve ever been lucky enough to handle for the final four games of the tournament. The first was sold to us years ago by noted collector, artist and Montreal goal judge Carleton "Mac" MacDiarmid, who traveled to Moscow in 1972 to take in the four matches held on Russian soil.
The important puck remains in pleasing displayable condition, with just light surface wear, and no obtrusive damage. Also included, we have a small 5” x 3” x 5” ½” case for display, with a wooden base and removable glass top, with stickers added over the front that state, “1972 Canada/Russia Summit Series Game Puck”.
