Spending just a pair of season’s in The City of Brotherly Love, J.J. Daigneault’s time in Philadelphia was special, with the Montreal native scoring the winning goal in the sixth game of the 1987 Stanley Cup Finals against Edmonton. This original Prince of Wales trophy was produced for the NHL by Boffey and presented to Daigneault in recognition of the Flyer’s status as Wales Conference playoffs champions. At 13” in height, the Prince of Wales Trophy plaque on the front of the 2" high wood base has Daigneault’s full name engraved. The main body it should be noted has been replaced, with just the base with mounted piece, plaque and lid original. Also included from his personal collection, we have 1986-87 and 1987-88 official framed Flyers team photos, with a signed letter from Daigneault to accompany.
Just light wear is present to the trophy and base, with Daigneault signing the felt underside. The first team photo pictures the 1986-87 Flyers, who fell one win short of defeating Wayne Gretzky’s Edmonton Oilers dynasty in Philadelphia’s second appearance in the Stanley Cup final in three seasons. Also included is the 1987-88 Flyers team photo. Both team photos are 9 1/8” x 13 3/8” prints with the names of those pictured below displayed within matte and mounted in 20 1/8” x 22 1/8” silver-colored metal frames, which Daigneault has signed in bold blue marker over the reverse.
