Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
A fabulous assembly here features collectibles produced by New York's Diamond Match Company, with many hobbyists considering the matchcovers undervalued when compared with trading cards from the same period. A complete set of 60 is led by immortals Howie Morenz and Eddie Shore, with fellow Hall of Famers Aurele Joliat, Lionel Conacher, Nels Stewart, the Cook brothers, Boucher, Clapper, Dutton and goalies Gardiner, "Tiny" and Worters also starring. We spot some creasing and discoloration here and there, along with intermittent wear to the strikers, with just four without their striker; Marty Barry and three commons. Four dozen duplicates (five striker-less) include Clapper, Conacher, Bun Cook, Dutton, Oliver, Shore (writing on the reverse) and Worters (all with strikers), offering several possibilities. An awesome bonus is a tan Howie Morenz (large image) example, still in matchbook form and with three matches present. Chipping to two of the blue-tipped matches is to mention, along with scraping to the front, but still, a seldom-seen relic to complement fascinating pre-war treasures.
