Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017

A trio of cards here has representatives from the two "anonymous" card issues of the 1920s. Identified as "Bellefeuille" on card #61 is Pete Bellefeuille of the Toronto St. Pats, with the lack of spacing between the first three lines on the reverse dating the example to the 1925-26 (first) anonymous set. Veteran hobbyist Bobby Burrell and his "Vintage Hockey Collector" price guide further reports that the cards of less than 40 different players are known to belong to the '25-26 set. Graded Poor 1 by SGC, it is joined by a similarly slabbed card of Detroit's Harold Halderson (#123), while #136-Gord Fraser received a mark of Good 2. The Fraser example is a variation, with "complet" in the French text on the back, (instead of "Complet") and the aforementioned spacing points to 1926-27 for the latter two. Fraser scored 14 goals as a defenceman for the first-year Chicago Black Hawks. Crude, fascinating collectibles!
