Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
The legend and one of the premier scoring sensations of his era is brought forth with this captivating image of Joe Malone, the Quebec Bulldogs’ center who led his team to the Stanley Cup the same season that this relic was originally discovered in a pack of cigarettes, scoring 21 times in 18 National Hockey Association games. Regarded as one of the most beautiful hockey card sets of all-time and perhaps the nicest of all the tobacco releases made, Malone is the subject of card #4 in the 1911-12 Imperial Tobacco C55 release. Serving as his rookie card and seen with his right hand over the top of his stick, this copy of Malone’s first-year cardboard has earned a very desirable grade of EX 5 by PSA. Slightly off-centered, the colours remains bright and vibrant. The holder exhibits a couple of marks on its front.
