Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
The images of 18 different Hockey Hall of Fame members highlight this intriguing ensemble of 5” by 7” pictures, or cards, issued by the O-Pee-Chee company, with almost as many condition issues! The cards of 11 of the HOFers for instance (including Howe, Goodfellow, Seibert, Pratt, Hextall, Weiland, Roy Conacher and Cowley), feature the players’ names written on the front in autograph style, but signed by a one-time owner and not the players themselves. All 11, along with numerous other examples, include “Hockey Herald – 20 St. Patrick St. – Quebec, P.Q., Canada” stamped in capital letters on the otherwise blank backs. We count a total of 47 with the stamping and 36 with the “signatures”. When pictures without the writing or stamping are spotted, small pin or staple holes are detected. Then there is corner wear and at times creasing. The technically low grade ensemble nevertheless offers swell looks at stars of the era, with Shore, Clapper, the Patrick and Colville brothers, Horner, Schriner, Busher Jackson and others also present. There are 14 duplicates and several possibilities with this interesting stash.
