Of Icelandic decent and hailing from a small Manitoba town named after a Norse god, Tom Johnson’s role with the Montreal Canadiens throughout the 1950s could definitely be considered divine, winning 6 Stanley Cups along with the James Norris in 1959. This stick was used by the HOF defenceman circa-1952, and it’s been team-signed. A CCM Pattern Made model, “10” is stamped onto the upper shaft, along with store supplier “Raymond Hardware”. The stick retains its tape on the blade and handle/knob, with 18 signatures fashioned in ballpoint appearing along one side of the shaft. Included are deceased HOFers Rocket Richard, Lach, Geoffrion, Harvey, Bouchard, Olmstead and Johnson.
The remaining signatures on this Tom Johnson stick include Meger, Reay, Gamble, Curry, Mosdell, St. Laurent, McCormack, MacPherson, Masnick and goaltender Gerry McNeil. The stick itself exhibits nice use, with marks on the lower shaft present along with a crack to the blade, while the signatures display well, with just some light fading. Hailing from either the 1951-52 season that saw the Habs advance to the Cup Final, or the following season that witnessed yet another glorious Stanley Cup victory, the stick is a prize worthy of any noteworthy Canadiens collection.
