Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Genuine bricks from Chicago Stadium and Boston Garden, featuring engraved metal plaques and accompanied by Certificates of Authenticity are swell pieces, while more exciting to some will be the rookie card of legendary Chicago sports figure Walter Payton. Card #148 from Topps’ 1976 issue is well-centered and grades easily NM in our eyes, with over five dozen other football star cards from the 1970s sure to wield some pleasant surprises and memories for the new owner. The lineup includes the likes of Staubach, Blanda, Tarkenton, Bradshaw, OJ Simpson, Dawson, Swan, Harris, Rashad, Joiner and others, with the cards housed in a binder that also includes what looks to be a complete 1990 Score football set and well over one hundred 1977 blue-bordered Star Wars cards. A binder full of hockey cards includes 100+ different cards of Atlanta Flames players(!), most of them clean O-Pee-Chee issues, along with Pinnacle and Pro Set cards from the early-1990s. Some 200 mid-‘70s Topps baseball cards are also present, but with an EX condition Gary Carter rookie card the only real notable. Completing is an August 29, 1970 football program from a benefit game at St. Louis’ Busch Stadium between the Cardinals and visiting Chicago Bears. It’s VG with an undecipherable black marker autograph on the cover. Intriguing and varied goodies await their new appreciative home.
