The Marcel Dionne's Auction - October 2004
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/19/2004
Shocking Canadiens wool sweater is some 50 years old and is in amazing and stunning condition. Manufactured by L.J. Parent & Sons of Montreal with the company's tag still in the neck, the classic Canadiens red home jersey was destined for the dressing room stall of the one and only Maurice Richard but never made it there. Instead, it was a gift from Canadiens Vice-President Kenny Reardon to a gentleman in Reardon's native Saskatchewan. The man's brother received a similar Doug Harvey jersey also offered in this auction. The Rocket's famous number "9" in white and blue felt with zigzag stitching is sewn on the back while the front displays the brightest, most vivid-colored Canadiens crest that one could possibly hope for on a jersey of this vintage. The sweater, with its red-felt-on-white-felt-on-blue-felt crest has been preciously preserved by this longtime Habs supporter. There are 3 very small stains on the middle front of the shirt, below the blue stripe, along with a couple of rust-colored stains in the white stripe of the left elbow. There are also 2 black dirt marks on the left sleeve and 2 half-inch holes on the back. There is a slight tear at the "V" beneath the lower eyelets, but again, the jersey is a brilliant, not to mention, thought-provoking and spine-tingling piece to hold. Richard's goal-scoring prowess was without equal and this jersey will be a cherished reminder of his greatness. Comes with a LOA.
