Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/14/2022
Mario Lemieux was in his second NHL season when his rookie cards like this were discovered in O-Pee-Chee and Topps wax packs and by the end of his fourth campaign, the young superstar had dethroned seven-time (consecutive!) Art Ross Trophy winner Wayne Gretzky as NHL scoring champion. Mario would go on to win five other scoring titles - what a dominant offensive player - and save big-league hockey in Pittsburgh. This example of Le Magnifique's OPC rookie recently returned from PSAland where it received an EX 5 assessment. Exhibiting near perfect centering, all four corners show wear as do the edges on the reverse. A desirable card regardless, this one presents a possibly affordable opportunity to one of the best rookie cards the hobby has to offer. Of note, the PSA holder shows light imperfections over each side.
