Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
The opening of a new home for the Canadiens brought many dignitaries to the Molson Centre March 16, 1996. Depicted in this photo is the ribbon cutting moment to officially open the doors – and the ice – to visitors. Looking at this lineup, you will spot political figures such as Pierre Bourque, Lucien Bouchard, and Prime Minister Jean Chretien along with Ronald Corey, Hall of Fame member Senator Hartland de Montarville Molson, and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. This large print has been matted and features a metallic plate with a description and the date of the event noted. There is some scuffing and scratches on the front side and glass, which is understandable since it was on display in hockey’s revered temple. On the back, look for three removable pieces of plastic which have been affixed by screws to assist in the mounting of the piece. The backing paper does have a several holes of varying size and there is a hole in the frame which once held a screw, but this should in no way take away from your enjoyment of this unique item. Direct from the archives of the Montreal Canadiens, this framed display was likely displayed at the Molson Centre and possibly at the Bell Centre. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
