Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
The 1960s saw a move to TV broadcasts boasting about being able to deliver images “in living color” and hockey equipment manufacturers took note. Soon gone were the days of brown leather gloves for players, replaced by gauntlets sporting brilliant and lively NHL team colors matching their uniforms. These glorious red, white and blue Cooper game-used gloves are a similar model of gloves worn by Montreal Canadiens in the late 1960s and early 1970s. A silver CH logo remains clear to see on the front of the cuff of each of the gloves despite portions that have been work faint. Cooper Canada CHP is also factory stamped in silver on the cuff, with Cooper Canada and NHL Professional on the red cuff rolls on the front of both gloves. Game wear shows in scuffs, marks and red paint transfer, as well as wear to the palms, which exhibit re-palming repairs, a gap between the cuff and the palm on the left glove, and an unrepaired hole on the right palm which has loads of reddish discoloration. Cool items from an era that saw the Habs win the Stanley Cup six times from 1966-73.
