Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Capturing consecutive Stanley Cup championships in 1991 and 1992, the Pittsburgh Penguins were loaded with both youthful and veteran talent including Mario Lemieux, with superstars Jaromir Jagr, Kevin Stevens and Rick Tocchet all contributing both on the ice and with their signatures on this delightful framed limited-edition King Features cel. At just over 11” x 16” (exposed), the hand-painted cel by longtime animator Myron Walden features Popeye in a Penguins uniform, hoisting Lord Stanley’s hardware along with his trademark spinach, with Olive Oil and Blimpy serving as excited fans. NHL and King Feature logos grace the base at each side, with the limited-edition number of “48/125” added in black. All three have signed the base of the matte, with the black marker signatures fading to a warm grey over time. Double-matted and framed to 17 ¾” x 21 ¾”, a COA is affixed to the back of the frame.
