Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021

Most will concur that the auctioning of this stirring and tantalizing rarity constitutes a hobby happening, with the most serious of hockey card collectors and/or Bobby Orr aficionados needing to step up to the plate, or should we say, skate into the face-off circle! Other collectors, meanwhile, can join in and marvel at the eye candy while gazing across and/or up and down each row. That’s after, of course, zeroing-in on the Boy Wonder who later helped lift the Boston Bruins to the pinnacle of the hockey world, with the Orr card in the last (vertical) row, fifth from the bottom. A side-to-side crease that cuts through Bobby’s forehead, just above his eyebrows, won’t be too noticeable once this shocker which originates from the Topps factory is properly framed and displayed. We spot other intermittent non-drastic creases upon inspection, with the only edge tear being two cards up from Orr; a half-inch rip reaches the border of the Bob Nevin card, with paper loss visible at two corners of the sheet which measures just under 23” by 28-1/4”. Counting Hall of Famers is fun, with at least three appearing in each of the top four (horizontal) rows and 24 altogether. Gordie, Bobby, the Pocket Rocket, “Chief” and Boom Boom are in the upper right quadrant, with the upper left led by Beliveau, Bower, Bucyk, Mikita, Pilote, Gilbert and the Big M – awesome. The card backs are printed, with English-only text, contrary to Topps’ bilingual 132-card “regular” set, with the test set totaling the 66 cards here and the woodgrain borders lighter than their counterparts. What an extraordinarily dazzling and riveting piece to hold and behold – imagine owning it!
