Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
A member of 7 Stanley Cup-winning squads as both a player and coach, Bryan Trottier would finish the 1981-82 campaign with 129 points – his second best offensive showing throughout his career, while also garnering NHL Second All-Star Team selection, with the Islanders on route to their third consecutive Stanley Cup victory. For their status as Wales Conference playoff champions, members of the Islanders received miniature Prince of Wales trophies to commemorate their fine campaign, with “Bryan Trottier” engraved along with that of the trophy on a metal plaque applied to one side of the 2 1/2-inch high wooden base, while engraving on a second plaque over the reverse reads "NHL Champions – New York Islanders – 1981-82". Four silver-plated hockey sticks rise up from the base to support a cup with removable lid (with bent finial), giving the award a total height of 12 ½”. Originating from Trottier’s personal collection, an LOA from the family will accompany.
As mentioned, the top finial is bent downward, with a few small areas over the bottom metal sections showing wear with surface loss. There is also some light surface wear to the trophy’s inner rim and lid, with additional wear to each of the mounted plaques including surface loss on the Prince of Wales/name plaque. We should also note a piece of masking tape has been added to the green felt underside, with an “N” handwritten in black ink.
