Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019

Following the attacks of September 11, 2001, the New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabres played on October 7. The Rangers and Sabres both wore special jerseys with “New York” diagonally across the front. The night started with a touching pre-game ceremony honoring the men and women in uniform who died trying to save lives in the World Trade Center attacks. The NYPD and FDNY hockey teams lined up on the ice and the Rangers stood between them during their introductions. We offer the Sabres example worn by netminder Bob Essensa at that evening's somber contest. An LOA from the Buffalo Sabres will accompany.
“Goalie Style” size 58 tagging is affixed to the collar, with partially embroidered CCM and NHL patches on the back neckline and bottom hem respectively. Styled with drop shadow tackle twill numbers, including “New York” diagonally across the front, Sabres alternate crests are situated over each shoulder. Game-wear includes marks over the upper front, with some minor discolouration over each sleeve. Following the game, both sets of jerseys were auctioned off to raise money for the Twin Towers Fund, with the auctions eclipsing $215,000. The jersey has been signed over the reverse by Essensa for the auction, with the signature displaying nicely.
