Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
The 1982-83 season was one of transition for the Edmonton Oilers, with Wayne Gretzky coming off arguably the best season of his career, the Oilers would meet and be humbled by the NY Islanders just before the dawn of their own Stanley Cup dynasty. For your consideration we have Wayne Gretzky’s game-used and signed Titan stick from 1982-83. The desirable stick retains its original tape on the blade and shaft, with “W. Gretzky” stamped on the upper shaft and handwritten “99”, along with W.G. added near the heel. A date stamp of “Dec 20 1982” is also present on the underside, opposite of the signature Wayne added along with dedication “To Tony”. From the incomparable collection of Shawn Chaulk, an LOA from Mr. Chaulk will accompany this amazing Gretzky stick.
Game-use includes nice wear to the blade along with some marks on the lower shaft including along edges, most likely from contact with other sticks during face-offs. We should also note that the thick marker signature Wayne has added stands out extremely well, with a little bit of smudging to a portion of it.
