It is with extreme honor and excitement that we bring to you this signed postcard penned by hockey legend Percy LeSueur. This is the first signature of the deceased HOF goalie ever offered and there is no known autograph of LeSueur ever being sold or in a private collection. The full text in LeSueur’s own handwriting on the back of the postcard reads, “Ottawa, Can, Mch 20/09. Thought perhaps you would like to have a photo of the team that I hope gave New Yorkers an idea of hockey as it is played in Canada. Hope you enjoyed the game as much as we did the trip. Sincerely Percy H LeSueur". Percy signed his middle initial "H", his full name being Percivale St-Helier LeSueur. Le Sueur and his reigning Stanley Cup champion Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Wanderers, their bitter rivals, played a two-game series at the St. Nicholas Rink in New York on March 12 and 13, 1909. It is most likely one of these games that LeSueur is referring to in the text he wrote on the postcard, which pictures a host of Hall of Famers on the front, including LeSueur, Fred “Cyclone” Taylor, captain Bruce Stuart, Marty Walsh and Billy Gilmour. The writing and signature in black fountain pen ink are in absolutely superb condition, as is the beautifully preserved postcard itself, which has extremely light handling to two corners and remains otherwise absolutely magnificent. This extremely rare and incredibly historic piece comes with a Classic Auction LOA.
