History-maker Jackie Robinson posed for this picture not long after breaking pro baseball’s color barrier with the Montreal Royals in 1946. Capturing Robinson in front of the dugout at Montreal’s Delormier Stadium, the picture, on thin paper stock, was available through a mail-in promotion to listeners of Paul Stuart’s “Parade Sportive” radio show in the mid-1940s, with hockey, baseball, boxing and other athletic stars also featured. Measuring 5” by 9-1/2”, this example has been encapsulated and graded Excellent 5 by Beckett Grading Services. One of only 4 such "pre-rookie" picture graded by BGS, this one is the second highest graded on the BGS population report. A mesmerizing, thought-provoking piece.
Warping of the picture within the acrylic holder is to note.
