Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014

This awesome photo-matched 1962-63 Edmonton Oil Kings game-worn jersey comes with a Memorial Cup championship pedigree! This beauty of a junior hockey gamer was originally obtained from Vince Downey, who wore it from 1961-63, including Edmonton’s 1963 Memorial Cup victory over the Niagara Fall Flyers. The spectacular team crest offers one of the four photo matches to a vintage 8x10 of Downey with the Memorial Cup in 1963. The placement of the yellow and black cross atop the crown with relation to the white felt background is clear to see, as are black marks on the white stripes on the front of each shoulder’s yoke. A close look at the photo also shows the red thread team repair on the front of the right shoulder yoke. This wool wonder measures out to a size 44 and has more wear in the form of extensive team repairs on the back of both sleeves and more sewing fixes on the sleeves, back and front.
The magnificent Oil Kings team crest features blue, yellow and white triple felt, with red, green and blue cable stitching for the gems above the blue felt “Edmonton” in individual letters, white cable stitchingfor the diamonds atop the crown, and black thread accent stitching. Absolutely fantastic with beautiful, vibrant colors!
