Hockey Memorabilia Auction - Spring 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/10/2008
The innovator of the goalie mask, Jacques Plante reaches across the crease to make a save on the front of his 1955 Parkhurst Rookie card. While there had been other goalies before him who periodically came out of their crease to play the puck, Plante was the first to skate in behind the net to stop the puck for his defencemen and the first to raise his arm on an icing call to let his defencemen know what was happening on the ice. He perfected the stand-up style of goaltending that is used to this day. Light creasing and rounded corners keep the grade lower on this Plante rookie. Examined by the experts at PSA who have slabbed this one with a grade of VG 3. HOF1978.
