Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Featuring a youthful Wayne Gretzky leading Team Canada and with games held across the country including in Winnipeg, Montreal, Edmonton and Ottawa, the 1981 Canada Cup was the second best-on-best tournament featuring the greatest hockey nations, with the single-game final won by a powerful Soviet squad. Originally from the personal collection of Bob Gainey, we have the ring that was presented to the former Habs’ captain and HOF superstar Bob Gainey for his participation with Team Canada. Size 9 ½ with an approx weight of 17 grams, a Team Canada half maple leaf sits raised on the tableau, encompassed by “Coupe Canada Cup” in raised letters, with four small diamonds inserted beneath. “19” appears on one shank in raised numerals, with “81” in matching font gracing the other. Stamped "10K" on the inner band, there is moderate wear throughout from use, with numerous small scratches over the bands and shanks, with a few dings also visible along edges. A signed LOA from Bob Gainey will accompany this patriotic ring.
