Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Setting a then-record 127 points at the conclusion of the 1975-76 NHL season, the Montreal Canadiens would lose only 11 games that year, with just a single loss during the postseason while steamrolling over the Black Hawks, Islanders and Flyers to claim their third championship of the decade. Originating from his first championship with the Habs where he contributed four post-season points, we have a gorgeous 10K gold and diamond ring that was presented to former captain and HOF star Bob Gainey for the Canadiens status as 1976 Stanley Cup champions. Size 11 ½ with an approx. weight of 35 grams, the tableau feature’s a diamond mounted over a blue rectangular stone, encompassed by “Club de Hockey” and “Canadiens” above and below on the outer bezel respectively, with “NHL” and “Champions” within the bezel. “19” and “76” also appear in raised and angled numerals. “Gainey”, a full colour Habs enamel logo and “23” appear over the right shank, with an embossed Stanley Cup set above an NHL shield logo on the left shank. The inner band is stamped "Balfour 10K”, with Gainey’s facsimile signature engraved. Originating from his personal collection, a signed LOA from Bob Gainey will accompany this gorgeous ring.
The ring shows moderate to heavier wear from use, with numerous scratches across the outer band and shanks, with some minor dings visible along edges.
