Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/21/2024
Hailing from his seventh of eight seasons in sunny California as a member of the Los Angeles Kings in which he registered 48 points in 48 games played, offered here is this stick used and signed by "The Great One", Wayne Gretzky during that campaign. An Easton Aluminum 5100 model that sports "Gretzky" graphics over the upper shaft, with this repeated on the stem of the inserted wooden Easton brand blade. Wayne’s original shaved down black coloured “Jack the Gripper” remains in place over the handle/knob with the blade tape, also black in colour, having been removed to facilitate a flowing black marker ink signature of Wayne's that displays well and with only light signs of age/wear while residue from the formerly in place tape is still present over both sides. Void of any coding from Kings equipment man Peter Millar over the butt end, the stick shows good use via numerous marks and abrasions throughout the length of the stick, heaviest over the lower shaft, blade stem, heel and blade itself. Having had a JSA sticker numbered "X65686" affixed over the frontside of the lower shaft for the autograph, a matching JSA LOA will accompany the sticker for the signature while a Shawn Chaulk LOA will accompany the stick as well.
