Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
On the verge of building arguably the greatest hockey team in history, the Montreal Canadiens welcomed a number of important future HOFers to the lineup in the late-1940s/early-1950s including Jacques Plante, Doug Harvey, Boom Boom Geoffrion and Dickie Moore, with these players crucial to the Habs’ success in the late-1950s as five-time Stanley Cup champions. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a team-signed 1951-52 Montreal Canadiens team photo. At 8” x 10” and picturing the Canadiens in the traditional on-ice team photo, the black and white image has been signed along the base by 17 members in blue ballpoint including deceased HOF members Richard, Plante (with alternate’s “A”, played with the Royals in 1951-52), Lach, Geoffrion, Olmstead, Bouchard, Johnson and Doug Harvey.
The additional signers include McNeil, Meger, Reay, Gamble, Curry, Mosdell, St Laurent, McCormack, and Bud MacPherson. The matching blue ballpoint signatures display well, with a bit of light smudging to a few. The photo itself is somewhat “rolled” from side to side, with a number of creases, surface lines and indentations present. There are also typed and handwritten notations over the reverse, including “Autographed on request Nov 12, 1952”.
