Brilliant blue Leafs knit worn by 500-goal man Mike Gartner dates to the 1993-94 season, his first in Toronto. Tagged in the collar by Maska Ultrafil with a size 54 fly tag off to the side. The CCM and NHL logos are sewn on the tail and tucked under as this shirt has been hemmed up, as expected, to Mike’s specs. Single-layer tackle twill numbers with letters sewn onto a plate and there is a snap-style fight strap sewn into the tail. Game wear is easy to spot with washed out marks on the cuffs, board burns on both sleeves and three very small holes. Faint stick marks and board burns also appear on the lower front. A perfect example worn by a Hall-of-Famer with 1432 games under his belt and 708 goals to his credit.
Mike Gartner was traded late in the 1993-94 season to the Leafs from the Rangers. In 1993-94 the hem length on his blue jersey leaves about 3/4 of an inch of blue material below the first stripe. After that season the rest of his jerseys are hemmed up to the first stripe exactly. This jersey is either from the regular season or the playoffs, as Mike played 10 regular season games and 18 playoff games the latter is more likely. The trainers did not cut Gartner's fight strap for this season, something they began starting in 1994-95 and there is video evidence to show Gartner played with the fight strap intact during 1993-94.
