Overtime Auction #5
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/27/2005
A standout goaltender for two full seasons with the New York Rangers from 1932 to 1934, Andy Aitkenhead took over the starting job from John Ross Roach and for two years was a solid if unspectacular netminder. He had played ten years in various minor leagues out west, most notably appearing in the Allan Cup finals in 1924 and 1926 with Saskatoon. Andy followed his NHL stint with another seven seasons in the PCHL, many of them with the Portland Buckeroos. This grouping of goalie gear comes from his Aitkenhead's personal collection and includes a pair of Thirties-vintage long-blade goalie skates with custom blade tips. Also, a pair of early-Forties-era Stall & Dean Puckmaster pants tagged in size 36 with original suspenders. Finally, a full set of pro-quality leather Cooper GM-12 goalie gloves worn by Andy during late-Sixties Oldtimer gatherings. The skates show their age, otherwise in excellent condition overall.
