Some of the biggest names in hockey gathered in Moscow to take part in a memorable farewell game last December to celebrate Igor Larionov's retirement from professional hockey after an incredible 27 seasons. The game was played December 13th at the Luzhniki Arena and featured many of Larionov's former Detroit Red Wing teammates playing for "Team World", against a team of well-known Russian NHLers, with "Team Russia" winning an entertaining offensive game by the score of 6-5. Three sets of jerseys were produced, with the players wearing each set for a period. The money raised by the sale of these jerseys will go to The Larionov Youth Hockey Charitable Foundation which Igor established to raise and disburse funds to support and develop amateur hockey players, both in North America and Russia. Many of the young athletes who will benefit from the foundation would not otherwise have the financial resources to participate in and play hockey. This Igor Larionov blue knit jersey has a Russian manufacturer's tag in the inner hem that indicates size 50. Lettering on the front of the vintage-style Russian jersey and Igor's number "8" on the back are in tackle twill-like material and sewn-on. The neat embroidered farewell game patch on the front and the "EFSI" patch on the back are also sewn-on while everything else, including Igor's surname in Russian on the back, is sublimated. A label sewn in the inner front hem includes the Larionov farewell game logo and indicates "Set 2 Jersey". Larionov did indeed wear this sweater in the 2nd period, before getting "traded" to Team World for Steve Yzerman. Igor tells the story of how the scheme was concocted by coach Scotty Bowman during a reception the night prior to the game. Bowman thought it would be nice for Igor to play alongside both his fellow Russians and the players who he won Stanley Cups with while in Detroit. Larionov and Yzerman agreed and the deal went down before the 3rd period. Following the game, Igor autographed his number "8" on the back in black sharpie. This sensational jersey from a historic evening will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by the legendary Igor Larionov.
