The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Fascinating typed letter is dated Feb. 15, 1930, and was signed twice by former New York Americans star Joe Simpson, who earned his nickname for his legendary end-to-end rushes. Newsy Lalonde once called "Bullet Joe" the best player alive. Simpson's letter to the Bigelow-Clark company states that their "Bigeloil" product "has been a great boon to me in the strenuous game of hockey. It has no superior as a rub and affords almost instant relief from the bumps, bruises, twists and sprains one is bound to suffer after the heat of practically every battle. I use nothing else as an after shaving lotion." Simpson then grants the company permission to use the preceding for advertising purposes. Included are two great and not often seen fountain pen signatures of this Hall-of-Famer (elected 1962) who died in 1973.
