One gets a real "feel" for the game during the 1930's with this fabulous and revealing lot. The equipment was used by Nick Wasnie, a right winger who got a taste of the NHL with the Black Hawks in 1927-28 and who was later signed by the Canadiens to replace Art Gagné alongside Habs legends Howie Morenz and Aurele Joliat. Wasnie enjoyed his finest seasons in Montreal and helped the Canadiens to back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in ‘29-30 and ‘30-31. He later spent single seasons with the Americans, Senators and Eagles. Some of this lot can be dated to his time with Ottawa in ‘33-34, notably the skates and socks. The size 8 1/2 CCM Tackaberry skates still have their original leather laces and have "14" on the bottom of each boot in white paint. The fascinating striped socks have the expected few holes in each but have been nicely preserved. Wasnie's gloves show extensive use with repairs to the palms and some of the fingers. The (small) size of the gold-colored canvas pants are intriguing. Wooden slats are sewn in the front with a little padding in the sides and nothing in the rear. Finally, the shin pads, with no knee caps, get a guy thinking; the felt, wood and leather creations measure but 11" long. Thought-provoking pieces have been preserved in overall excellent condition and were used by a former 2-time Stanley Cup champion. Outstanding.
