This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Classy plaque was presented to popular Flyers defenceman André "Moose" Dupont in 1975 with the raised lettering mentioning that the true sign of a champion is to repeat success, which Philadelphia did by beating the Buffalo Sabres for the Stanley Cup. The plaque in part reads "Whereas...André Dupont of the Flyers helped rekindle a winning spirit in Philadelphia which has provided its citizens with a sense of pride and enthusiasm unmatched in any other city". Great piece recalls Philadelphia's enthusiastic reaction to the Flyers' success and concludes with "Now, Therefore....I, Frank L. Rizzo, Mayor of the City of Philadelphia, with great pride, do hereby proclaim 1975 as The Year of the Flyers II in appreciation of their outstanding achievement of winning two successive Stanley Cup championships of the NHL and re-establishing Philadelphia as a City of Champions". The seal of the City is included on the heavy award which has been autographed on the back by André Dupont in black marker. In gorgeous near mint condition, the special keepsake was obtained directly from André Dupont and "Moose" will sign a letter of authenticity that will be included. Wonderful piece of Flyers history.
